perseverance is another high-tech rover NASA has sent to Mars. In the past, various countries have sent rovers to Mars for various purposes. Some of them failed but some of them succeeded. Curiosity is still active among the rovers that NASA has sent to Mars. They gave us a lot of important information about Mars. This perseverance rover is very important among those. This is because it contains a lot of special equipment that was not present in the old rovers. The Perseverance rover will land on Mars on February 18, 2021. It is already very close to Mars (12 / Jan / 2021). Once the operation begins, a lot of important information about Mars will be revealed. They also sent a helicopter to Mars for the first time with this rover. If it is successful, this will be the first extraterrestrial aircraft test.
The perseverance rover began its journey to Mars in July 2020. By an Atlas 5 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center. After the first stage is separated, the connection with the rocket broke down. But about two hours later it recovered again. From last year to now, the spacecraft carrying the rover is very close to its destination. It has two main components, that is perseverance rover and the ingenuity helicopter. This helicopter is mounted to the body of the rover. The helicopter will release from the rover after landing on Mars. If the helicopter is successful, it will be the first step in future air experiments on Mars. Also, the helicopter can easily travel to places that the rover cannot reach. However, this perseverance rover will be in service on Mars for two years.
This rover is ready to land on Mars’ Jezero crater. This crater is about 50 km wide. Scientists suspect that a river may have flowed through it in the past. Exploring this place will help us understand if there was life on Mars in the past. It is also the largest rover to be sent to Mars. It has more equipment installed than previous rovers. This rover is 10 ft long and weighs about 1 ton. The data collected by this rover will send to Earth by the deep space network.
How it lands
This rover uses a parachute and a sky crane to land. First, the rover capsule enters Mars’ atmosphere. In this case, the rover must protect from the heat generated by the capsule while colliding with the atmosphere. For that, a heat shield is attached to the bottom of the capsule. Once this enters the atmosphere, the lid with the heat shield comes off. It then rapidly reaches the surface of Mars. Meanwhile, the parachute unfurls and slows down the capsule. Because Mars’ atmosphere is so delicate, the parachute is not enough to slow down the capsule. That’s why there is a sky crane with rocket engines. The height at which the parachute is to be released is determined by the equipment of the rover.
The parachute slows down and then releases the sky crane and rover from the capsule. The engine of the sky crane then activates and approaches the surface of Mars. Once the sky crane is close to the surface, the rover will be placed on the surface of Mars by cables from a specified distance. At this point, the sky crane does not get too close to the surface of Mars. This is because its engines can cause dust on the surface of Mars and damage the rover. The whole process takes about 7 minutes. This process called 7 minutes of terror.

It takes photos of the surface of Mars and analyzes them. That data determines the landing site. There is no GPS system in the orbit of Mars. So this tool is used to find the right place.
The role here is to calculate the height before landing. This determines the time parachute should be released as the capsule descends. So the rover can land in the most accurate place. The special feature is that the old rovers do not contain such a device.
This is the main arm-like part of the rover. A drill mounted in the corner of this. It drills Mars’ to collect underground soil samples. The collected soil samples stored inside of the rover. This rover can also analyze soil samples.
As the name implies, this device is designed to search for something. Mounted on a robotic arm, it can tracks life on Mars in the past. It also determines whether life is unique to Mars.
A super cam is a laser mounted to this rover. It melts the rocks on the surface of Mars. It then analyzes that vapor. A mic is also installed to record the surrounding noise.
Obtains data such as wind speed, pressure, temperature, etc. It also has the ability to analyze the climate on Mars.
This device monitors whether all other devices are working properly.
